Who caught the Daily Telegraph last Saturday? If you did you may have noticed the friendly faces of our proprietors, Louis and Pip, along with son Archie on the front page of the weekend supplement. Asked to contribute to an article about the benefits of working in a small city they were happy to oblige, taking the opportunity to showcase our striking eatery, alongside their interview.
The article shares details of the eight towns that won city status as part of the jubilee celebrations, along with interviews with residents who have enjoyed the benefits small cities can bring. And having moved to Wells 20 years ago to start a business and raise a family, Louis and Pip, along with their son Archie, were the perfect family to feature. They live on the outskirts of Wells with their two grown up children and are well integrated into the community having run two businesses from the historic market square.
It’s not just our wine bar that the article celebrates, as the smallest city in England Wells punches well above its weight in terms of tourism and culture, with visitors flocking here to see the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. It’s also home to many festivals and events from the comedy festival to Wells Literature festival which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Activity we’re hoping to compliment from our event space at The Bishop’s Eye this year with the launch of our Winter arts event series.
And Louis was keen to take the opportunity to shout about some of the other great businesses here in Wells, Queen Street Deli, fashion boutique Amba and our hardware store Whitting & Son are all excellent and well worth a visit!
So if you’re not yet familiar with the delights of the historical city of Wells perhaps it’s tine to plan a visit. All the information you’ll need to plan your visit can be found here at Visit Wells, Somerset and of course be sure to book a table for lunch with us and come along and sample our delicious selection of sharing platters of smoked fish, charcuterie and cheese, complemented by hand picked wines and bespoke cocktails.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
